DO A FLIP!
A game prototype made in pico-8 for the very serious Juniper Dev game jam, June 2026.
A simple 2D action game. The main goal is to fill the cool meter at the top of the screen. The player remains in place as enemies swarm from left and right. Dispensing them is fairly easy but will do little to fill the cool meter. What make's a fight scene cooler? A whole bunch of unnecessary acrobatics of course! The best way to boost your meter is to do a flip. However flips leave you vulnerable to attack so you must time them wisely. As the meter fills enemies spawn faster and move quicker.
This protype is extremely limited and can be completed in under a minute. For the full project, I envision, more enemy, level and weapon varieties, power ups and additional acrobatic stunts that can chained into combos to fill the meter faster. Perhaps one day, I'll make that a reality. For now I hope someone gets at least some small amount of enjoyment out of doing some poorly animated flips whilst in combat with generic grey blobs. There's a also a few bugs. Most are simple little graphical hiccups but one causes enemies to stop spawning seemingly randomly in the latter half. I'm yet to determine the cause of this but I need to sleep so apologies if you encounter it. All I can recommend for now is that you reboot the game and try again. :/
Tl;dr: Imagine if One Finger Death punch was made by a legally blind guy with very limited programming experience, on a computer about as powerful as a toaster, in under a day because he realised far too late that his original idea for the game jam was not possible in pico-8. :)
